When to actually start applying for internships

For summer roles, the serious pipelines open in August and September of the previous year. If you're applying in February, you're competing for what's left.

Work backwards: résumé and one portfolio project by July, referrals and outreach through August, applications through September, interview prep in October.

The students who look lucky usually just started a semester earlier.
